YouTube was created by three former PayPal employees, Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim in February 2005. This new platform allowed for individuals, organizations and media to publish and interact with videos.
Youtube quickly became a powerful hub for video content marketing. For the first time, businesses could upload videos and tag them on a searchable website allowing for easy sharing and dissemination of messages to new audiences. Since its launch, YouTube has become a behemoth, garnering more than 1 billion users and billions of video views per day.
